Our class time today focused on working out problems using only mental math. We went over how to clear decimals from problems and then using various reducing skills in order make the overall answer easier to manage. Our first test will not involve calculators, so this practice is important to build up these skills. The last part of the lesson focused on reviewing the concepts of the distributive property and factoring. The students then got started on their assignment.

Geometry 10-12; 8/31
We worked through a couple of different activities today that involved the students describing and drawing various geometric figures. We also went over how to draw the intersection of lines with lines, lines with planes, and planes with planes.

We continued our work with figures and drawings today by demonstrating how rays can be uses to draw both opposite rays and angles. The labels and symbols for these were shown. We also went over how to determine the length of segments and what congruent means. We worked through a few elementary calculations with the segment addition postulate.

Honors Algebra 2; 8/30
We continued to work with the different types of set notations today. We went over a few more types of wording examples today to reinforce how to use the set notations. We also reviewed some basic properties of numbers that the students will use throughout the year.

We spent time today going over the first real geometry lesson of the year. Today's topic focused on the basic figures and symbols in geometry. Points, lines, and planes were discussed, as were several other figures that are associated with them. The students then got started on their assignment.

We spent time today going over a few more drawings of various geometric figures in class. We showed the intersection of planes looks like and how to draw two different versions of this scenario. We also went over what a line segment and a ray looks like. The second part of the period was spent going through a drawing and describing activity in which pairs of students took turns working with a variety of geometric drawings.

Algebra 2 Honors; 8/29
We continued working with our set theory topic by taking a look at the different ways sets can be written down. The set notations that we worked with were the roster notation, the set-building notation, and the interval notation. We went through 3 examples together before getting started on the homework. Part of the assignment involves the set notation, while the other part of it involves some basic operation and algebra skills.

Geometry 10-12; 8/29
We continued our work with basic algebra skills today by reviewing the concepts of how to solve various types of equations. We went through 4 different steps that we need to check each time an equation is encountered, and then had 4-5 sample problems to work on using those steps. The students then got started on their assignment.

Welcome back to another school year! We spent time today going through the course syllabus and learning some of the routines that I will use repeatedly throughout the year. We also began our first unit today on Set Theory. We talked about all the different number systems that we will be using and how to find the union and intersection of sets. The students then got started on their first assignment.

Welcome to another school year! We spent part of the period today going through the syllabus and the course expectations. The students then got started on their first assignment...a basic skills review involving various algebra concepts. We went through a few sample problems together first before the assignment was passed out.
