Geometry; 2/26

Our lesson focused on using proportions and parallel lines in a variety of figures.  We also went over an angle bisector theorem in triangles.  The examples we went over continued to reinforce the algebra skills of factoring polynomials.

We continued our work with right triangles today, going over how to use the pythagorean theorem to classify triangles today.  We also went through 2 examples that demonstrated how to approximate square root values in various problem types.

Honors Algebra 2; 2/26

Our lesson today focused on evaluating logs and using them to solve equations.  We went over the various properties of log and exponential equations in order to best use them to solve problems.  After 5-6 examples, the students got started on their homework.

Our lesson on similar right triangles included how to incorporate working with radicals and factoring into these types of problems.  We went over 4 examples together before getting started on the assignment.

Geometry; 2/24

We went through the process of learning how to calculate with multiple right triangles.  Using the geometric mean and the variety of formulas that we derived, the students practiced setting up a variety of problem types from the same diagram.

Today's lesson focused on the beginning of our unit on right triangles.  We went over how to use the pythagorean theorem and explained some of its history.  After 4-5 examples, the students got started on their assignment.

Geometry; 2/20

We went over a couple of questions from the assignment before getting started on the quiz.  The students took the bulk of the period to take the topic 7 quiz today.

Our work with radicals today included how to multiply and divide using radicals.  We went over 3-4 examples of each, and specifically went over how to rationalize the denominator when dividing.  The students then got started on their assignment.

We continued our work with the similarity postulates by going over how to write similarity proofs in our lesson today.  We went over 3 examples together before the students got started on their assignment.

We started our unit on similarity today by taking a look at some review topics involving ratios and proportions.  We went over several different methods of working with ratios before the students got started on their assignment.

We continued our work with inverse functions today by taking a look at how to restrict the domain and range of particular functions.  We also went over how to use compositions of functions to test to see if two functions are inverses of one another.  The students then got started on their assignment.

The students took the topic 6 test in class today.

Our lesson today focused on two other concepts involving similarity.  The side-splitter theorem and the theorem involving multiple parallel lines.  We went over 4-5 examples together before the students got started on their assignment.

We introduced the concept of what an inverse function is and how to both determine it and graph it.  We reviewed the concept of whether or not a set of points in indeed a function or not, and then went through 2-3 graphing examples together before the students got started on their assignment.

Our lesson today focused on how to use the coordinate axes to prove the various properties of quadrilaterals.  We went over 3-4 graphing examples together before the students got started on their assignment.

We spent time today reviewing the similarity postulates and word problems that we have been working on this week.  The students worked in pairs for the first part of the period as they went through 4 sets of review problems.  They then got started on their review assignment in preparation for the quiz tomorrow.  The answer key is posted on canvas.

Our lesson today focused on operations with functions.  We went over addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.  Each of these operations is not new.  The students just needed to be reminded of some new notation.  We also went over how to compose functions together and the notation that this involves.

We spent some time reviewing the algebra skill of solving systems of equations today.  We went through 3-4 examples together to dust off the memories of how to handle these equation problems before the students got started on their assignment.

We continued our work with similar triangle postulates today by adding in how to handle fractions and decimals in our calculations.  We continued to emphasize the 3 ways that triangles are found similar:  AA, SAS, and SSS.

Today's lesson focused on proving special parallelograms.  We went over how to use the properties that we have studied with special parallelograms to determine the correct shape.  We also continued to work with a variety of calculation problems involving special parallelograms.
