Honors Algebra 2; 4/10

We continued our work with graphing parabolas today by illustrating how to graph figures given only 2 or 3 points.  We went over 2-3 examples together of these types of problems before the students got started on their assignment.

Assignment:  Graphing Quads WS #3

Geometry 10-12; 4/10

Our topic today was an exploration of the properties of parallelograms.  We reviewed how to make measurements with both the ruler and protractor before beginning to make various observations about the angles, diagonals, and sides of a parallelogram.  The students made several conclusions from their measurements and then continued on with their assignment of working with interior and exterior angles in polygons.

Assignment:  Parallelogram exploration

Geometry; 4/10

Our lesson today focused on the different types of tangent lines and circles that will occur in the problems we work with.  We went over several vocab terms, specifically focusing on the difference between internal tangents and external tangents.  We also demonstrated a couple more examples of how to work with tangent lines and triangles to perform various calculations.

Honors Algebra 2; 4/9

Our graphing skill today involved working with quadratics that were not in the vertex form to start with.  We converted the standard quadratic into vertex form by completing the square to begin with.  We then worked to fill out a complete data set for the equation before graphing it.  We went through a couple of examples together before the students got started on their assignment.

Assignment:  Graphing quadratics WS #2

Geometry 10-12; 4/9

We continued our work with polygons today by deriving the formulas for the interior angle sum and the exterior angle sum.  We went through 3-4 more examples together before the students got started on the assignment.

Assignment:  Int. and Ext. Angle sum WS

Geometry; 4/9

We continued our work with circles today by taking a look at how tangent lines and circles interact.  We went through how to use the fact that tangents are perpendicular to circles at the endpoint of each radii.  This fact was then used in a variety of calculation problems that we demonstrated and then the students got to work on.

Honors Algebra 2; 4/8

Today's lesson involved introducing the foundational skills of how to graph quadratics.  We went over the basic shape of a parabola and how it can be graphed from the vertex form of the quadratic.  We went through 4-5 examples together to remind the students of how to shift, stretch, and shrink these parabolas before getting started on the assignment.

Assignment:  Graphing Quadratics WS #1

Geometry 10-12; 4/8

We started a new unit today that involves working with polygons and quadrilaterals.  We went over the pattern involved with determining the angle sizes and the number of sides of regular polygons.  We worked with both interior and exterior angles.  The students went through 4-5 examples with me before getting started on the assignment.

Assignment:  Angles in Polygons worksheet

Geometry; 4/8

We started a new unit today based on the topic of circles.  The lesson today focused mainly on the various vocab words that are involved with circles.  We went through 4-5 different drawings together in class and how to recognize different figures involved in a circle.  The students then got started on their assignment.
