Honors Algebra 2: 12/13

We answered homework questions together before taking a look at two last sample problems before our quiz.  These two review problems involved multiple steps to simplify and rationalize the answer, so they were a good summative review for the quiz.

The students then got started on their review assignment.

Assignment:  Working with Radicals Quiz Review   (answers posted on canvas later today)

Geometry 10-12; 12/13

Our topic today was rotations.  We went over the three rules that govern rotation with figures, each one with a rotation of 90, 180, or 270 degrees.  We went over how to indicate clockwise or counterclockwise rotation, and emphasized the need to use the rules to convert the coordinates before one graphs the image.  We did a couple of homework problems together before the students started working independently.

Geometry; 12/13

Our topic today centered on eliminating two common options for congruent triangle postulates.  We showed two drawings that served as counterexamples for the SSA and the AAA possibilities.  We then added two new theorems that pertain to isosceles triangles.  We went over how to work with base angles and did a few different calculation problems before getting started on the assignment.

Honors Algebra 2; 12/12

Today's topic was how to rationalize the denominator.  We went through the basic review of what the students had covered in their algebra class, but then we also went through how to use the conjugate of an expression in order to eliminate radical expressions in the denominator.  We went through 4-5 examples together before the students got started on their assignment.

Assignment:  page 308;  #30-53

Geometry 10-12; 12/12

We continued our work with transformations today by talking about compositions of transformations and then a short mini lesson on line symmetry.  We went through 2-3 compositions together and also showed a variety of objects that have symmetry in order to give the students the opportunity to practice recognizing symmetry.

Assignment:  Compositions / Symmetry worksheet

Geometry; 12/12

We went over a few short review questions today to start class.  The students then turned in their chapter 5 quiz reviews and took the remainder of the period to complete the chapter 5 quiz on congruent triangles.

Honors Algebra 2 ; 12/11

We continued our work with radicals today by reviewing some algebra skills used to multiply polynomials.  We used these skills to multiply a variety of types of radicals and then simplify the solution.  Once we went through 4-5 examples together, the students got started on their assignment.

Geometry 10-12; 12/11

We continued to introduce transformations today by taking a look at how reflections work.  We went through the notation for reflections and demonstrated how to use horizontal, vertical, and diagonal lines of reflection.  After 3-4 examples together, the students then got started on their assignment on their own.

Assignment:  Reflections worksheet

Geometry; 12/11

We went through a few review problems today together in preparation for our quiz tomorrow.  We also showed a type of problem involving the selection of proper statements that are either used before or after triangles are proved congruent.  The students then got started on their review assignment for the quiz.

Geometry; 12/10

We continued our work with triangle proofs today by taking a look at how to end a proof with a vocabulary word.  Essentially these proofs are the ones that prove midpoints, parallel lines, bisecting angles, etc.  All of these involve some sort of vocabulary word at the end.  We went over 2 examples together before getting started on the assignment.

Honors Algebra 2; 12/7

We continued our work with radicals today by taking a look at how to simplify radicals that are not perfect squares.  We talked about factoring each number into its various prime factors to help shorten the simplifying process.  We also worked a little with polynomials to demonstrate how they are factored as well.

After working through a quick entry task, the students turned in their chapter 4 reviews and ch. 4 entry tasks.  They they spent the remainder of the period taking the Chapter 4 Test.

Assignment:  none

Geometry; 12/7

We practiced one more proof together today before taking the last of our proof check quizzes.  When the students were finished with the quiz, they got started on today's assignment.

Honors Algebra 2: 12/6

We began the next part of our unit today by introducing the topic of working with radicals.  We defined what a radical is and how to read its notation.  We then worked on some mental math skills and some quick methods of simplifying radicals of all types.

We went through 4-5 examples of commonly missed questions today before the students spent time working on their 2nd chapter 4 test review.

Assignment:  Chapter 4 Test Review #2

Geometry; 12/6

We continued our work with congruent triangle proofs today by taking a look at the acronym CPCTC.  We went over what this means and how it is used in a variety of ways to prove corresponding parts congruent in a variety of triangle pairs.  We went through a couple of examples before getting started on the assignment.  The students took their second proof check quiz today in class as well.
