Honors Algebra 2; 10/31

We went over the homework questions together before spending the majority of the period reviewing various types of problems that we have covered this unit.  We went through 4 sets of problems with partners to practice our skills together.  The last part of the period the students spent working on their Unit 4 Review assignment.  Unit 4 test in class tomorrow.

We continued our work with lines today by going over how to determine if lines are perpendicular or parallel.  We went over how to determine this using slopes with several different examples.  The students then got started on their assignment.

Honors Algebra 2; 10/30

Today's topic involved working with systems of inequalities.  We went over how to graph single linear inequalities, and then how to work with two of them at a time in a system.  We demonstrated the different shading techniques used to determine the overall answer.  After 4-5 examples together, the students got started on their assignment.

Today's topic involved working to change any line equation into slope intercept form.  We worked on several examples in order to do this, incorporating the point slope equation into our work as well.  The students then got started on their assignment.

We spent today working in partners as we reviewed for the chapter 3 test tomorrow.  We went over another parallel line proof together to start class, and then worked on 3 more proofs after the review activity was over.

Honors Algebra 2; 10/29

Our topic today involved how to use systems of 3 equations to solve various types of word problems.  We went through 3-4 examples of these types of problems together before the students got started on their assignment.

Our work today focused on how to graph lines from various equations.  We went over the slope intercept line equation, the point - slope line equation, and the equations for horizontal and vertical lines.  After 5-6 examples, the students got started on their assignment.

Today was our first day of review for the chapter 3 test that is coming up on Wednesday, Oct. 31.  We went through 3 different parallel line proofs today as a class, reminding everyone about the different angles pairs that are available to use during these types of problems.  The students then got started on their review assignment.

We continued our work with systems of 3 equations today.  The students went through a few more examples together as a class before getting started on their assignment involving some different types of system scenarios.

We started the 2nd half of chapter 3 today by taking a look at the algebra aspect of parallel and perpendicular lines.  We went over the different types of slopes of lines and how to calculate slopes of lines in our lesson today.

Our topic today involved the process of inductive reasoning.  We reviewed the differences between inductive and deductive reasoning during the course of our lesson.  We went through the patterns of numbers, figures, and various word problem set ups together before getting started on the assignment.

Honors Algebra 2; 10/25

We continued our work with systems of equations today by taking a look at how a system of 3 equations works.  We went through how to solve for all the variables and how to use the three equations together.  These problems require a little more attention to detail, so we modeled a few together with the students before getting started on the assignment.

We went through a few review problems to start the period and took any questions from the chapter 3 quiz review sheet.  The students then took the rest of the period to complete the chapter 3 quiz.

Today's topic involved working with polygons again, so we revisited our inductive reasoning project results.  We went over interior and exterior angle sums  of polygons, and found several calculation shortcuts in working with problems involving both types of angles.  We also went over several prefixes that are used in naming polygons.

We went through a few review problems together to start class.  The remainder of the period was spent taking the systems of equations quiz.

We went over a few review problems in the entry task today in preparation for tomorrow's quiz.  We also went through 2 new construction procedures using the compass.  We went over how to construct both parallel and perpendicular lines.  The students then got started on their review assignment for tomorrow's quiz.

We continued our work with triangles today by going over two more theorems together.  The first was the triangle sum theorem, and the second one was the exterior angle theorem.  Both of these theorems will be used extensively in the problems and topics moving forward.  We also went through a couple more triangle and parallel line calculation problems together before getting started on the assignment.

We went over the last part of our word problem study today with a couple new types of problem setups.  The students then got to work on their review problems during the 2nd half of the period.

Our work today focused on the converse of many of the angle pairs and parallel line theorems that we have been working on.  We went over 3-4 drawing examples together before the students got started on their assignment.

We summarized our findings from the inductive reasoning project today, as well as introduced some of the different types of triangles that we will be working on during the second half of chapter 3.  We went over several new vocabulary words and some basic calculations together before the students got started on their assignment.

Our work today focused on more complex drawings of parallel lines.   We went over 3-4 more examples of these complex drawings together before getting started on the assignment.

We continued to work with parallel lines and angle pairs today by going over several different diagrams and calculations.  These angle pairs are either congruent or supplemental, and we continue to practice our skills in being able to identify them.

Geometry 10-12; 10/18

We started our new unit of parallel and perpendicular lines today.  We went over several new vocabulary terms and modeled what they were and how to draw them.  We then began looking at certain types of angle pairs that occur when lines are parallel.  Identifying these angle pairs is an important skill that we will really emphasize during this chapter.

We started a new unit on systems of equations today.  We went over what both a system and a solution for a system is in terms of graphing.  The main topic today was solving systems by graphing.  We went through a few examples together before the students got started on their assignment.

We continued our work with parallel lines today by taking a look at how to prove lines are parallel.  We still used the same three angle pairs to do this  (corresponding angles, AIA, and SSI angles), but we used the converses of the statements we have been working with the past couple days.  We went through 2 proofs and a couple of drawing identifications together before getting started on the assignment.

We went through a desmos activity today dealing with linear equations and linear regression.  This online activity was done as a class and with a partner.  The final question of the activity was assigned as homework.

Honors Algebra 2; 10/11

We went over the concept of linear regression and making a line of best fit today in class.  We demonstrated how to work with a variety of data sets and how to use the desmos graphing calculator to determine a line equation from a set of points.  After demonstrating one data set with the class, the students then got started on their assignment in working with 5 other data sets.  The assignment is outlined in a document on canvas and needs to be submitted online by Monday, Oct. 15.

We went over some final postulates with points, lines, and planes today to wrap up chapter 2.  We demonstrated how to draw these figures and how to use the facts to come up with solid deductive reasoning in working with various drawing questions.

We continued  our study of absolute value today by taking a look at three or four more examples of how to convert the formula back to its original form.  We went over these together before the students got started on their assignment.

We went through the foundations of how to work with the absolute value function today.  We showed the different transformations that can occur in this function, and learned how to read the generic formula in order to detect any of the transformations involved.

Honors Algebra 2; 10/2

Our lesson today focused on perpendicular and parallel lines.  We went through a few sample calculations of how to use the slopes of lines to determine whether or not they are perpendicular or parallel.  Parallel lines have the same slope, while perpendicular lines have slopes that are opposite reciprocals of each other.

We went over 4-5 examples today of how to graph a wide variety of lines.  Each of these involves line equations and/or slopes.  The students then got started on their assignment towards the end of the period.
