Geometry; 8/29

We continued our work today with segments and angles by going over how to work with the segment addition postulate and the angle addition postulate.  We also introduced the terms congruent, midpoint, and angle bisector.  After 3-4 examples together, the students got started on their homework assignment.

Assignment:  lesson 1-1;  page 11-13;  #3, 4 (U);  #12, 22-34, 38 (PPS)

Geometry 10-12; 8/29

Our work today focused on the algebra skill of solving equations.  We went over the 5 different skills that are used when working with equations, and then did 4-5 examples together on the white boards to practice those skills.  The students then got started on their assignment.

Honors Algebra 2; 8/29

We continued our work with set notation and determining domain and range today.  We added a few concepts to the mix:  roster notation, continuous vs discrete functions, and mapping diagrams.  We went over the homework questions and then got started with the lesson to complete the picture from yesterday.

Geometry; 8/28

Today's lesson focused on going through an introduction to the foundations of geometry.  We labeled and drew several different figures, indicating the different symbols that will be used throughout the year.  We also did some initial calculations with the length of segments and the size of angles.

Assignment:  lesson 1-1;  page 11-13;  #2 (U), 5-7 (KH), 9, 16-21, 39 (PPS)

U -->  Do you understand problem set

KH -->  Do you know how problem set

PPS -->  Practice and Problem solving set

Geometry 10-12; 8/28

Our lesson today focused on working with more mental math calculations and order of operations.  As we review our algebra foundation, we focused today on some of the misconceptions that order of operations and the PEMDAS acronym can present to people.  We also went through a group activity of doing mental math together.

Assignment:  PEMDAS and Algebra Review WS

Honors Algebra 2; 8/28

Our lesson today focused on some of the common graphs that we will be using this year:  linear, absolute value, quadratic, and constant.  We went over the shapes of these graphs and how to determine if they are a function or not  (vertical line test).  We also introduced the concept of domain and range and how to label these from a graph.
