Geometry assignment; 10/31

We spent a little time continuing to work with isosceles triangles today.  We focused on how to do various calculations with these type of triangles.  We then took our 3rd proof check quiz at the end of the period.  When the students finished the quiz, they got started on their assignment for the weekend.

Geometry assignment; 10/30

We worked on adding to our knowledge of congruent triangles today by going through a lesson on isosceles triangles and the various properties about them that can be proved using CPCTC proofs.  The students also took their second proof check quiz before getting started on their homework.

Geometry assignment; 10/29

We worked through a couple more CPCTC proofs today before taking a triangle proof check quiz in class.  This is the first of 3-4 short quizzes that we will take over the next few days to practice on triangle proofs.  After the quiz, the students got started on a CPCTC worksheet in class.

Today's topic involved working with percent calculations in a variety of problem types.  We used the percent ratio and the tool of cross multiplication to solve several percent problems together before getting started on our assignment.

We continued working with triangle proofs today by using the concept of corresponding parts of congruent triangles in proofs.  We went through 3 together before the students then practiced one on their own and got started on their homework.

Geometry assignment; 10/27

We continued our work with congruent triangles today.  The focus of today's lesson involved taking a look at some of the postulates that one can use to prove that triangles are congruent.  The three that we went through today were the SSS, ASA, and SAS postulates for congruent triangles.  We did several examples together before the students got started on their homework.

Today we continued to work with equations that involve proportions.  The problems that we worked on today were a step up in complexity from the proportion problems that we first explained last week.  The key step today involved using the distributive property to clear any and all parentheses that might be in the proportion to start with.  The students they got started with their homework at the end of the period.

We started the next chapter today:  chapter 4 on congruent triangles.

We went over several initial examples of how to identify congruent triangles and label the corresponding parts.

We turned in the chapter 3 review packet today before taking the chapter 3 test.  The students took the entire period to take the test.

We worked with the absolute value function with equations today and showed that there are now two possibilities in getting answers.  The presence of the absolute value function will result in two values that are correct as solutions in each equation.  We also went over the type of problems that do not work with absolute value functions.  After going through several problems together, the students then got started on their homework.

We started off the period with a warm up question that dealt with angles in polygons before then going over our homework.  The lesson today focused on inductive reasoning and how it differs from deductive reasoning.  We went over various number pattern problems and inductive reasoning examples before the students got started on their homework.

We continued our work with angle calculations today as we focused on polygons.  Working problems that involved both interior and exterior angles of polygons is what we did together and then got started on at the end of the period with the homework.

We started the next section today which deals with classifying and calculating with triangles.  There were several new vocab words as well as drawings that we went over together before getting started on the triangle packets in class.

We finished up the notes for section 3-3 today and practiced for the chapter 3 quiz tomorrow.  Working with short proofs, parallel line drawings and calculations, and using angle pairs to indicate parallel lines are all things we did one more time in preparation for the quiz.  The last part of the period found the students working on an angle properties review worksheet and getting started on their homework.

We continued our work with parallel lines today by taking a look at the converses of the various angle pair theorems.  We worked through a couple of proofs together before practicing together on a diagram to identify which lines are parallel based on the angle pairs.  The students then got started on their homework at the end of the period.

We continued our work with parallel lines and angle pairs today.  The three topics that we covered today included going over how to construct parallel lines using corresponding angles, one more parallel line proof, and then a calculation problem dealing with systems of equations and parallel lines.  The students then got started on their homework towards the end of the period.

We continued working with parallel lines and different angle pairs.  Today's topic dealt with using the angle pair postulates and theorems for proofs and calculations.  We went over several sample problems together before the students got started on their homework assignment.

We began our study of chapter 3 today by looking at parallel lines and how a transversal creates several new categories of angle pairs to study.  The symbols for parallel lines and the names of the various angles pairs were introduced and practiced together before the students got started on their homework.

I was gone at a conference today so the kids had some work to do in class today with the substitute.  They worked on two main assignments.  The first dealt with a review of angle pairs and how to calculate the values of angles from diagrams.  The second dealt with systems of equations.

We did some algebra review today in looking at systems of equations.  We went through a couple of examples in solving by substitution and solving by elimination.  The students then got started on their homework.  We will be using these skills in the upcoming chapter, so it is good to review and strengthen them before beginning.
