Geometry assignment; 11/22

We got back our parallelogram quiz today and went over both the quiz and the homework.  We also started section 5-4 on special parallelograms.  We worked with rectangles, squares, and the rhombus today in our notes and calculations.

We went over an entry task to review for our quiz today on linear equations and slopes.  We then took the quiz and started our homework afterwards.

Geometry assignment; 11/21

We started section 5-3 today and went over how to use some calculations involving parallel lines.  The calculations involving multiple parallel lines and the midsegment of triangles were the  things we worked on.

We continued working on the slope intercept form of linear equations today.  The goal today was to be able to view a graph of a line and to put it into an equation.  The equation needed to be in the slope intercept form.

We finished up section 5-2 on proving parallelograms and went over a few practice problems before taking a quiz on parallelogram calculations.

We introduced the concept of the slope intercept form of a line today.  We involved graphing as well as calculations to get line equations in the correct form.

Geometry assignment; 11/19

We continued our work with parallelograms and proofs today.  We now have five properties of parallelograms that we can use in proofs and to solve problems.

1.  two pairs of opposite sides are congruent
2.  two pairs of opposite angles are congruent
3.  the diagonals bisect
4.  two pairs of same side interior angles are supplementary
5.  one pair of sides is both congruent and parallel

We continued our work with linear equations and slopes today.  After reviewing the concept of determining the slope by graphing, we went over the process of determining the slope by calculation.  We used two points and the formula:   slope (m) = (y2 - y1) / (x2 - x1)

Geometry assignment; 11/18

We went over our homework from the weekend involving properties of parallelograms.  We then introduced the methods of using parallelograms in proofs.  We will continue this process over the next few days.

We spent some time reviewing functions and inequalities in our entry task today before starting our new unit.  We introduced the concept of linear functions today and worked with determining the slope of a line using a graph.

Geometry assignment; 11/14 and 11/15

We went over our test today in class on congruent triangles.  We also introduced the topic of parallelograms and some of their properties today.  We went through a measuring activity and then went over some sample problems together before starting our homework.

After turning in the review sheet and going over a final entry task on writing function rules, we took the test on Functions and Graphing.

Algebra 10-12 assignment; 11/13

We went over our homework and an entry task today that focused again on writing function rules.  We then took a look at a couple more examples of these type of problems before starting to work on our review sheet.

The answers for the review sheet were given out at the end of the period so the students could check their work.

Assignment:  finish the review sheet and check it using the answer key.   Test on graphing, functions, and relations tomorrow.

We spent some time reviewing together today in preparation for the chapter 4 test tomorrow.  We went over key steps proof in class, as well as worked on a proof review sheet together in groups.  The homework assignment involves 6 problems that are also good ones to review before the test.

We got back our quiz today from last Friday and went over it.  We then started our last topic in this particular unit....finding function rules.  The notes we went over today were combined with the homework assignment, so the students were able to get most of their homework done in class.

After going over a short entry task, we took a quiz on functions, relations, and graphing today.  We'll get this quiz back on Monday and go over it then before our test next week.

We wrapped up our study of chapter 4 today with some notes on how angle bisectors and perpendicular bisectors work with triangles.  The questions in the homework today involve drawing some of these figures as well as calculating their measurements.

Geometry assignment; 11/7

We began discussing the final section in chapter 4 today.  We went over medians and altitudes today in class, working through a center of gravity activity with triangles.

We continued working on graphing functions today.  We went over the characteristics of a parabola, a line, and the absolute value function.  The students then started working on making 9 more graphs from a section 5-3 worksheet.

We worked on solving problems today that involve two or more sets of congruent triangles.  We also introduced the idea of proving just key steps in a proof that can led lead to the desired conclusion.

Assignment:  section 4-6;  p. 148-149;  #1-4, 7a

We worked on graphing functions today in class.  Using a domain that works well with the function, the students then made a table of ordered pairs by using the function to calculate the y-values.  These ordered pairs were then graphed on an x-y axis.

After going over homework on overlapping triangles today, we took our Chapter 4 quiz on congruent triangles.  After the quiz, the students got a start on tonight's homework.

We reviewed our function notation today by going over the homework and working through an entry task.  We then got back our graphing events quiz and went over that together.

The bulk of today was spent reviewing our graphing skills, as we will be using them in the next few days as we graph relations and functions.

The in-class graph was completed and then the students got to work on their homework assignment.

Geometry assignment; 11/4

We went over the final proof check quiz from last week and also the triangle congruence homework.  We then worked on section 4-5 together.  The topics today included the last two methods of proving triangles congruent  (AAS and HL) , as well as working with problems involving overlapping triangles.

Our chapter 4 quiz  (sections 4-1 to 4-4) is tomorrow.

We worked on evaluating functions today and writing function notation.  The function rules (equations) were used to convert input values (domain values) into output values (range values).  These sets of values result in ordered pairs that will then be graphed in the next few days.

We went over both our homework and the proof check quiz from the day before.  After answering questions and doing a few more practice problems, the students then took the 3rd and final proof quiz of the week.  After the quiz, they were able to start their homework, which was a congruent triangles worksheet.
