Honors Geometry; 5/16

Our topic today involved taking a look at similarity and solid objects.  This was much like what we did with areas.  We went through 3-4 examples to show that the scale factor can be determined from a variety of dimensions on a figures.  The ratio must always be the same for the objects to be similar, however.  The other ratios that we looked at then showed that any area ratio was equal to the scale factor squared, and the volume ratio was equal to the scale factor cubed.  The students then started using these relationships as they did their homework.

Assignment:  section 12-5;  page 511-512;  WE 1-11, 13, 17-19, 21
