Geometry; 11/26

Today's lesson focused on introducing the last method of working with congruent triangles.  We explained the HL theorem and went over a couple of proofs involving it.

Today's lesson focused on how to write congruent triangle proofs and set them up in a two-column format.  We reminded the students of lessons that we had learned earlier when working with proofs through this process.  We worked through 3 examples together before getting started on their homework.

Today's lesson involved the topic of how to work with graphs involving imaginary numbers.  These root pairs create inflections on the polynomial graphs that are difficult to graph exactly without using a graphing calculator.  We went over how to estimate their location and to show on the graph how to indicate that they are there.

Today's lesson focused on how to deal with irrational roots in the graphing process.  We went over 2-3 examples together before the students got started on their graphing assignment.

Today's lesson involved working with triangle proofs that involve a corresponding part.  We went through 2-3 examples to show how the CPCTC step is used to end these proofs.  The students then got started on their assignment.

Today's lesson involved introducing the last two types of triangle congruence methods:  HL theorem and AAS.  We went over 3-4 drawings together to determine the ways these two different ideas will show up.  The students then got started on their assignment.

Today's lesson continued our work with polynomials and factoring.  We went over an example of how to work with polynomials in an application problem to check for the reasonable solution.  We also continued to practice factoring with rational roots to determine which ones are factors.

We continued to work on finding the roots of polynomials today.  The main focus of the lesson was to show another shortcut to solving for the needed roots and to show how the roots themselves can be used to write a polynomial.  We went through 3-4 examples together before the students got started on their assignment.

Today we spent time reviewing for the quiz tomorrow.  We went through 4 sheets of partner review problems in which the students worked together to solve a variety of questions in a 5 minute time span.  The students then worked on their chapter 4 review WS towards the 2nd half of the period.

We spent today reviewing for the quiz tomorrow.  We went through 2 proofs to analyze the drawings and use the vocab words to determine how triangles are congruent.  We also walked through 2 more calculation drawings together before the students got started on their assignment.

Today's lesson focused on how to begin the process of finding roots for polynomials.  We went over how to test for roots using synthetic division, and how to determine if roots were rational, irrational, or imaginary.  The examples we went over showed how to use our factoring skills as well as relying on the quadratic formula when necessary.

Honors Algebra 2; 11/19

We began a discussion of the rational root theorem today and showed the students how to consider both the leading coefficient and the constant when determining which values to try as factors.  We went through 3-4 examples of polynomials we could factor completely from a hint, but then also showed how to generate a list of possible roots from the values of p and q.   The students then got started on their assignment.

We continued to demonstrate triangle proofs today, with an emphasis on isosceles triangles and equilateral triangles.  We went over the isosceles triangle theorem and its converse today, showing how it can be used in a variety of calculations.  The students then got started on their assignment.

We continued working with triangle proofs today.  I went over one with the class together and then we did one together from their homework assignment.  The students then had the rest of the time to work on their triangles proofs assignment.

Today's lesson focused on the beginning lesson of how to prove triangles congruent.  We went over the first 3 postulates that are used to prove triangles congruent:  ASA, SSS, and SAS.  These postulates are used to analyze drawings and to determine if two triangles can be proved congruent.  We went through several drawing examples together before getting started on the assignment.

Today's lesson continued to focus on how to write triangle proofs.  We went over 3 more proofs together before getting started on the homework assignment.

Our lesson today focused on how to work with corresponding parts of congruent triangles.  We went over the symbols necessary in this task, and also how to evaluate different types of drawings to determine various types of calculations.  We worked on how to write congruence statements and how to deal with writing equations from these drawings.

Today's lesson focused on how to use the remainder theorem and the factor theorem when working with polynomials.  Both of these theorems make use of synthetic division, and can quickly shorten the process of evaluating polynomials.  We also went over how to use these tools to determine if a value is a factor of a polynomial.

Today's lesson focused on working with the beginnings of triangle proofs.  We went over how to interpret drawings and identify 3 of the main postulates for proving triangles congruent.  These were SSS, ASA, and SAS.  The students observed 3 proofs before getting started on their assignment.

We continued to work on classifying triangles today as well as learning more about calculating angles from different types of drawings.  We went over a triangle proof together, as well as taking a look at what an exterior angle is and how to calculate them.

Today's lesson focused on how to work with synthetic division.  This common algorithm can greatly shorten the process of dividing a polynomial.  We went through 3-4 examples together before getting started on the assignment.

We started topic 4 today by taking a look at how to identify corresponding parts of congruent triangles.  We went over 4-5 examples of drawing recognition problems to see how the two congruent shapes are related and how they could be transformed from one spot into another.

The lesson today focused on division with polynomials.  We went through how to divide a polynomial by a binomial, showing how it is quite similar to working with long division.  We went through 3-4 examples to illustrate this process before the students got to work on their assignment.

Today's lesson involved the second aspect of symmetry that we will study:  rotational symmetry.  We went over how to determine the order of a rotation and the value of the angles that an object must rotation through in order to map onto itself.  We went through several pictures to display these concepts, as well as showing what point symmetry looks like.

We continued our work with writing line equations that are parallel or perpendicular to a given equation.  The focus today was starting with equations that are in standard form.  After 3-4 examples together, the students got started on their assignment.
