Our work with right triangles focused on how to solve right triangles today. We went through how to determine all the side lengths and all the angle measurements in any right triangle in which we are given three pieces of information. We went through a few examples together of these types of problems. We also introduced how to work through trig application problems. These word problems involved setting up a problem from a given description and drawing a triangle that we can use. We went over how to work with angles of depression, angles of elevation, and % grades of roads. After a few of these examples, the students then got started on their assignment.

We spent the first part of period today reviewing how to do some basic triangle proofs. These are problems that we will review some more for the upcoming final. We then went over how to work with similarity proofs. The first postulate that we went over was the AA postulate for similar triangles. We also did some calculations to review what we have already worked on with similar triangles.

We reviewed several homework problems together on the pythagorean theorem before moving on into today's lesson. We learned a little about the history of the pythagorean theorem and how it can be proved in different ways without numbers. We also worked with the converse of the theorem today to show how it can be used to classify triangles as either right, acute, or obtuse.

We continued our study of right triangles today by going over how to use the pythagorean theorem. The students have all seen this theorem before, so we did a couple of foundational problems to start with before going through 3-4 more complex examples. We will use this theorem a lot this chapter, so having a good knowledge of how it works is important.

We continued our study of similarity today by taking a look at how word problems can be translated into drawings of similar figures. We went through several different examples before getting started on the assignment. The actual calculations are rather short, yet the skill of setting up the problem from the diagram is the skill we focused on.

Today's lesson focused on the start of our study of right triangles. We looked at how similarity and right triangles are related in a particular diagram. We introduced the concept of the geometric mean in a drawing and how different parts of right triangles can be calculated using a series of similarity ratios. We made a note card to help us in the process of learning these ratios. The students then got started on their assignment.

We continued working with ratios today by combining them into proportions. We reviewed several algebra skills in how to solve proportions to start off with. We then went over some of the different properties of proportions that we will use throughout this chapter. The final topic we covered was how to set up ratios and proportions from diagrams. Once the proportions were set up, we then worked to solve them and find the desired dimension. After the lesson, the students got started on their assignment.

Happy New Year and welcome back to school. We went over a quick overview of the schedule for the next few weeks before getting started on today's lesson. We started our study of similarity today by taking a look at how to work with ratios. This is an algebra skill, yet one that we need to link to geometric figures as we move forward. We did several examples of reducing ratios, converting to the proper units, and also working with extended ratios before the students got started on their homework.
