We went over the chapter 7 quiz today in class and then worked through a couple of review problems together before getting started on a chapter 7 review assignment.  The students can use their review guide and old quiz to study for the chapter 7 test which will take place on Monday, Feb. 2.

We reviewed one more AC factoring problem today before taking the chapter 6 factoring test in class.

We spent time going over the topic of proportional lengths today in class.  We went through three different types of proportions:  triangle, parallel lines, and angle bisector proportions.  We did several problems together in setting up the ratios before the students got started on the homework assignment.

We reviewed all the different methods of factoring today and prepared our test card for tomorrow.  The students then got started on their review sheet assignment in class.

We went over homework today before taking on quiz on chapter 7, sections 7-3 to 7-5.  After the quiz, the students got started on their homework assignment.

We went over our entry task together and one more AC factoring problem.  The students then took a short quiz  on factoring.  Once the quiz was done, they got started on their assignment.

We continued working on similarity proofs today by going over 4 of them together.  We also went over the homework assignment from last night that mirrors the quiz tomorrow.  The students then got started on their assignment during the last part of the period.

We introduced the final method of factoring today -- the AC method.  We related this to our work with factoring by grouping that we worked on yesterday.  We went through 4-5 problems together before the students started working on their homework assignment.

We reviewed a couple of similarity problems together before starting on today's lesson.  Today we introduced the last two postulates for proving triangles similar.  The SAS and SSS similarity postulates were demonstrated and explained with 5-6 problems before the students got started on their homework.

We continued working with similarity proofs today and also went through a couple of problem solving techniques involving similar triangle diagrams.  The students then got started on their assignment towards the end of the period.

We worked with a variety of types of polynomials today so the students could work at identifying which factoring method to use.  We went through several examples together before the students got started on their homework practice.

We introduced the first of several postulates today in how to prove triangles similar.  The concept we covered today was angle - angle postulate for similar triangles.  The AA postulate was used in a couple of proofs that we went over together and several diagram recognition problems that the students worked on in their homework.

We introduced a new topic today:  factoring trinomials that do not contain perfect squares.  We used the sum and product puzzle tool that we learned about yesterday to break down these new types of expressions into two distinct factors.  We went over 6-7 examples together in class before getting started on the homework at the end of the period.

The start of a new semester today involved the students getting their semester finals back and getting back into the regular routine of classes.  We spent some time reviewing the first part of chapter 7 on similarity today in class, as it had been over a week since we had specifically focused on these topics.  After doing 5-6 sample problems in class together, the students then got started on their homework assignment at the end of the period.

The start of a new semester today!  After 3-4 days of reviews and taking final exams, the students got back into the regular routine in our class today.  They got their final exam back and then we continued on working through chapter 6 and factoring polynomials.  We spent a little time reviewing the skills we have learned so far, and then we began working on how to factor polynomials that do not involve perfect squares.  We introduced a tool called a sum and product puzzle today to help the students in this next task.  We practiced it several together before the students got started on their homework at the end of the period.

We worked on another method of factoring today:  factoring trinomial squares.  We went over the shortcut method to do this and showed also how to check to see if your factoring is correct.  After several examples together in class, the students then got started on their homework.

We worked on the topic of similarity today and how to determine if shapes are similar.  The concept of a scale factor was introduced and this ratio was used to solve a variety of problems.  After going through the note examples together, the students then got started on their homework.

We learned how to factor squares completely today by using common factors and/or finding another difference of squares.  We went through several problems together before working on these more complex problems during our work time.

We added to our skills in factoring today by working on problems that involve factoring the difference of two perfect squares.  We constructed a note card of perfect squares to use as a reference tool and then went over several examples of how this factoring skill works.  The students then got started on their homework assignment in class.

We continued working on ratios and proportions today.  Our task today was using proportions to solve for unknown values  (algebra skill) and then using proportions to find unknown numbers from geometry sketches.  Writing the proportions and using the different properties of proportions are the main skills we worked on using today.

We began our study of similar polygons today by going through the notes on section 7-1.  We worked on how to handle ratios and proportions today both with geometric figures and with algebraic equations.  The students also reviewed the skill of constructing parallel lines as well.

We continued working with factoring skills today, going over how to write prime factorizations of various monomials.  We also went over more examples of factoring out a common factor from polynomials.  In doing so, we showed that some polynomials do not factor and are known as relatively prime.  The students worked on their assignment at the end of the period.

The students got back their chapter 6 test today that we took just before break.  We also went over the schedule for the next 2 weeks leading up to final exams.  Our lesson in class today involved two review topics and one algebra skill that we will be using in the next chapter.  We reviewed some construction skills together and also went over a few types of triangle inequality problems.  We then reviewed the algebra skill of reducing fractions and finding the greatest common factor between two expressions in order to best reduce the fraction.

The students then got started on their assignment.

We spent some time reviewing today and going over the end-of-semester schedule before getting started with the lesson.  Our topic today dealt with factoring polynomials as we began chapter 6.  The two skills we worked on today were factoring monomials and finding a common factor in a polynomial.  We went over several examples together before getting started on our assignment in class.

We worked on an activity today involving geometric puzzles involving toothpicks.  Students worked together to solve as many of the puzzles as possible in the shortened periods that we had.

We went over a short entry task together before taking the chapter 9 quiz.  Once the students were done with the quiz, they were able to work on an extra credit possibility if they chose to.

We continued our work with chapter 9 today by going over how to deal with absolute value equations.  We solved several together with a variety of forms before getting started on the assignment towards the end of the period.
