We spent time going over the topic of proportional lengths today in class. We went through three different types of proportions: triangle, parallel lines, and angle bisector proportions. We reviewed a couple of similarity problems together before starting on today's lesson. Today we introduced the last two postulates for proving triangles similar. We introduced the first of several postulates today in how to prove triangles similar. The concept we covered today was angle - angle postulate for similar triangles. The AA postulate was used in a couple of proofs that we went over together and several diagram recognition problems that the students worked on in their homework.

The start of a new semester today involved the students getting their semester finals back and getting back into the regular routine of classes. We spent some time reviewing the first part of chapter 7 on similarity today in class, as it had been over a week since we had specifically focused on these topics. After doing 5-6 sample problems in class together, the students then got started on their homework assignment at the end of the period.

The start of a new semester today! After 3-4 days of reviews and taking final exams, the students got back into the regular routine in our class today. They got their final exam back and then we continued on working through chapter 6 and factoring polynomials. We spent a little time reviewing the skills we have learned so far, and then we began working on how to factor polynomials that do not involve perfect squares. We introduced a tool called a sum and product puzzle today to help the students in this next task. We practiced it several together before the students got started on their homework at the end of the period.

We worked on the topic of similarity today and how to determine if shapes are similar. The concept of a scale factor was introduced and this ratio was used to solve a variety of problems. After going through the note examples together, the students then got started on their homework.

We began our study of similar polygons today by going through the notes on section 7-1. We worked on how to handle ratios and proportions today both with geometric figures and with algebraic equations. The students also reviewed the skill of constructing parallel lines as well.

We continued working with factoring skills today, going over how to write prime factorizations of various monomials. We also went over more examples of factoring out a common factor from polynomials. In doing so, we showed that some polynomials do not factor and are known as relatively prime. The students worked on their assignment at the end of the period.

The students got back their chapter 6 test today that we took just before break. We also went over the schedule for the next 2 weeks leading up to final exams. Our lesson in class today involved two review topics and one algebra skill that we will be using in the next chapter. We reviewed some construction skills together and also went over a few types of triangle inequality problems. We then reviewed the algebra skill of reducing fractions and finding the greatest common factor between two expressions in order to best reduce the fraction.
The students then got started on their assignment.
