Two hour delay schedule, so classes were shortened.  Our chapter 7 quiz will take place tomorrow due to the shortened class periods today.  We went over a few more questions from the review sheet to begin class.  We then started the next topic which included how to solve similar triangle proofs.  We went through the AA postulate for similar triangles today and showed how to interpret various types of drawings.

Two hour delay today, so classes were shortened.  We put off our Ch. 7 Test until tomorrow due to the shortened periods.  We spent some time answering review questions from the chapter 7 review sheet. We then began our radicals review before getting into the topics of chapter 8.  Today we reviewed how to simplify radicals that contain both numbers and variables.  We went through several examples together before passing out the assignment.

We talked about the results of our final exam today in class and went over the schedule moving forward.  We stopped for the final in the middle of chapter 7, so today's lesson was a quick review for the chapter 7 quiz that will take place tomorrow.  We went over how to work with similarity problems and how to find the scale factor with a variety of different figures.  The students then got a good chunk of the period to work on the chapter 7 quiz review sheet.  Answers will be posted for this review sheet later on in the day.

Semester 1 Final in class

Honors Geometry; 1/26 and 1/27

Semester 1 Final in class

Geometry; 1/25

We had our 3rd review day in preparation for the 1st semester final today.  We went over some of the ideas in working with congruent triangle proofs that we had seen earlier, as well as some polygon angle calculation problems.  The students then spent the bulk of the time in the period working on their 3rd review packet.

Assignment:  Semester Exam review packet #3

Honors Geometry; 1/25

We went through our final review packet today in preparation for the 1st semester final.  The students then worked on some similarity review problems during the last half of the period.

Assignment:  Similarity Review Packet

Tuesday, January 24, 2017

Geometry; 1/24

We spent the first part of the period going over our homework assignment from last Friday.  This dealt with similar shapes and setting up ratios for them to solve for different dimensions.  We then spent the rest of the time reviewing for the semester 1 final.  We went through 3-4 problems together before the students got started on their 2nd review packet that they worked on in class.

Semester 1 Finals:    periods 0, 1, 3, 5 on Thursday, Jan. 26
                                  periods 2, 4, 6 on Friday, Jan. 27

Assignment:  Finals Review Packet #2

Honors Geometry; 1/24

We spent the first part of the period going over the final assignment from chapter 7 that we worked on last Friday.  We then spent the rest of the time reviewing for the semester 1 final.  We went over the answers to the first review packet and then explained whatever problems the students wanted clarification on.  The students then got their second review packet to begin working on in prep for the final.

Final Exams:  Periods 0, 1, 3, 5 on Thursday, Jan. 26;  Periods 2, 4, 6 on Friday, Jan. 27

Assignment:  Finals Review Packet #2

Friday, January 20, 2017

Geometry; 1/20

We went over our adjusted finals schedule to start the period today in light of the recent weather cancellations.  The semester finals will now take place on Jan. 26 and 27.  We also took a look at how to work with similar shapes that have corresponding parts.  From these figures, we then worked to set up a ratio that can be used to solve for different variables.

Assignment:  Similar Polygons worksheet  +  Self Test 1;  pg. 252;  #1-15

Honors Geometry; 1/20

We went over the adjusted finals schedule today due to the weather cancellation days.  The finals will now take place on Jan. 26 and 27.  We did go over a short lesson today that deals with the final concept in chapter 7.  We took a look at different figures that have proportional lengths and distances in them.  We took a look at segments, parallel lines, and segment bisectors and how each one can set up equivalent proportions.

We went through our first day of review today for the final exam.  We reviewed 3-4 concepts with some sample problems before the students got to work on their review packets.  They will get 2 more of these review packets before the final exam.

Assignment:  Finals Review Packet #1

Tuesday, January 17, 2017

Honors Geometry; 1/17

We went over our homework today before getting started on the review for our final exam.  We spent some time reviewing the concepts of calculating angles in polygons using the formula 180 (n - 2) = interior angle sum.  We also went over a triangle proof together as well before getting started on a proof review worksheet.  The proof review worksheet and the multiple choice packet #1 will be gone over tomorrow in class.  A second collection of multiple choice questions will be passed out tomorrow.

Assignment:  MC packet #1 + proof worksheet.

Geometry; 1/13

We continued our work with similarity today by reviewing some more algebra skills.  Yesterday we went over the use of ratios and how they can be used with various geometric figures.  Today focused on setting two ratios equal to each other to set up a proportion.  We went over solving proportions, different properties of proportions, and how to use proportions with various figures.  The students then got started on their homework.

Assignment:  Section 7-2;  page 247-248;  WE  #1-25 all, 27, 33, 35

I also passed out a review packet #1 for the 1st semester final.  With the holiday on Monday, the students can use some of the extra time to get started with some practice questions for the final.  This packet is not due on Tuesday, but it will be turned in by the end of next week, so I wanted to get it out for the students to work on.

Honors Geometry; 1/13

We went over the homework questions from yesterday's assignment and then showed the last two methods of proving triangles are similar.  The SAS and SSS methods for similar triangles are both ones that we demonstrated how to do using various figures and numbers provided.  The sides must be proved proportional using numbers and then reducing the fractions to see if the ratios are equal.  We went through 3-4 examples before getting started on the assignment.

Geometry; 1/12

The students got back their chapter 6 test today in class.  Many of them also turned in their scavenger hunt projects that were due on our first snow day.  We then got started working on the concepts involved in chapter 7.  This chapter is all about similar figures, but the first couple sections involve reviewing the foundational concepts from algebra that we will need to study similarity.  Today's lesson focused on working with ratios in a variety of settings and always simplifying them to obtain an answer.

Assignment:  Section 7-1;  page 243-244;  WE  #1-30 all

Honors Geometry; 1/12

We returned to school today after the 3 snow days to start the week.  We spent some time reviewing similarity and going over how to work with similar proofs.  We demonstrated how to work with shadow drawing problems with similar triangles and also went through one more similar triangle proof together.

Scavenger Hunt Project due Monday, Jan. 9

Honors Geometry; 1/6

We got back our quiz today and went over a few questions together.  We then started the process of learning how to write similarity proofs with two triangles.  We demonstrated how to use the AA postulate for similar triangles today by going over several drawings and a couple of proofs together.  The students then got started on their assignment.

We continued working on inequalities between two triangles today by showing a few more complex diagrams and then demonstrating how to write an inequality proof.  These are significantly shorter than regular triangle proofs and there are only two different options.  We demonstrated this concept a few times together before getting started on the chapter 6 review worksheet in class.  Chapter 6 test is tomorrow.
