We got back a check quiz from last week today that we went over along with our homework to start the period. We then covered section 5-3 in class today through some guided notes with several examples. The main topics we worked on today involved how to work with parallel lines and the congruent segments they create on transversals, and the way to use midsegments of triangles.
The students got started on their assignment at the end of the period.
Our chapter 5 quiz is going to be split up over the next 2 days to adjust for the short period on Wednesday. Section 5-1 to 5-2 will be our quiz tomorrow and then section 5-2 to 5-3 will be the remainder of the quiz on Wednesday.

Geometry assignment; 11/19
We continued working with parallelograms today with some calculation problems and a couple of proofs. We introduced an new property of parallelograms to go along with the others that we have already studied. If a figures has a pair of sides that are both congruent and parallel, then that figure is a parallelogram. The students got started on their assignment at the end of the period.
Tomorrow we will have a short quiz on parallelogram calculations similar to what the students have been doing in their homework. Also included will be one triangle proof that uses properties of parallelograms to solve it. This short quiz will be a quick check for understanding on the first part of the chapter.

We started on chapter 5 today which deals with quadrilaterals. Today's topic was identifying the properties of parallelograms. There are 4 main topics that we went over together in the notes with sample problems: in all parallelograms, opposite sides are congruent, opposite angles are congruent, diagonals bisect each other, and consecutive angles are supplementary. After going through the sample problems, the students then got started on their assignment.

The students got back their chapter 4 test today. Those tests can be worked on and turned in as test corrections by Thursday for more points on the test if the students so choose. We then started our lesson on exponents today. The first topics in chapter 5 are knowing how to multiply and divide exponential numbers. We went through several examples together before getting the students started on their homework assignment.

We worked through section 4-6 today that involved taking a look at diagrams with more than one pair of congruent triangles. These types of drawings involve some shortcuts as we just look at the key steps of the proof. The main idea was that both pairs of triangles need to be proven congruent before the question can be fully answered. We went through several examples together before the students spent the last portion of the period getting started on their assignment.

We continued working with inequalities today. Our focus involved what to do with fractions and multiplication/division when solving inequalities. We used many of the same skills that we have developed while working with equations. The key difference is that if a value is multiplied or divided by a negative number, then the inequality is reversed.
