Geometry; 4/30

We continued our work with arcs and sectors today by taking a look at how to calculate central angles from these formulas.  We also worked through a few "shaded region" problems in which we needed to use both circles and triangles to determine the areas of various figures.

Assignment:  Sector area / arc length WS +  page 454;  WE 13-16 all

Honors Geometry; 4/30

We went over a few questions on the review sheet to begin the class.  The students then turned in their reviews and took the remainder of the period to complete the chapter 11 quiz.

Geometry; 4/27

We continued our work with area today by taking a look at sector areas and arc lengths of circles.  We went through a few examples for each topic before the students got started on their assignment.

We continued working on the area of regular polygons today by showing how to work with problems involving trig ratios.  We went over a couple of examples together before getting started on the review.

Geometry; 4/26

Our study of area and perimeter today focused on working with circles.  Both complete and semicircles were demonstrated in the examples, and the students worked with the familiar formulas of area and circumference of circles.  We also showed the difference between an exact and approximate value to areas in working with circles.  After 4-5 examples, the students then got started on their homework.

Assignment:  Section 11-5;  page 447;  CE 1-12;   page 448-449;  WE 9, 11, 12, 15-17

Honors Geometry; 4/26

We continued our study of area today by taking a look at how to determine the area of regular polygons.  We introduced the term "apothem" today in working with these shapes, and used various triangle shortcuts to determine the area formula for regular polygons.  After 3 examples together, the students then got started on their homework.
