Algebra 10-12 assignment; 4/9

Today our focus on functions centered on working with word problems.  We went through several examples of how to write a function from a word problem and then use the function to answer a question.  The students then got started on the homework towards the end of the period.

Geometry assignment; 4/8

We discussed a new topic today in dealing with area and circumference of circles.  We had covered this briefly during our chapter on circles, but today we focused on two ways to do these types of problems:  using the exact value of pi or the approximate value of 3.14 or 22/7.  We went through several examples together before the students got started on their homework.

We have a quiz up through section 11-5 on Friday.

Algebra 10-12 assignment; 4/8

We continued working with functions today, focusing on the how to determine the boundaries of functions from graphs and from equations.  We went through several examples of each before getting started on the homework.

Geometry assignment; 4/7

We continued our work with regular polygons today by going over how to work with polygons with non-short cut angles.  The process was the same, yet the tool we needed to use was our trig ratios.  We went over a couple of problems together before getting started on the homework.

Algebra 10-12 assignment; 4/7

We continued our work with functions today with the topic of how to work with the graphs of functions.  We used a given function and domain to come up with a set of ordered pairs to construct a graph.  We then used the vertical line test to see if the graph was indeed a function.  After going over a few samples together, the students worked on their assignment for the remainder of the period.

Geometry assignment; 4/6

Welcome back from Spring Break!  We continued our study of the area of figures today by going over how to figure out the area of regular polygons.  We introduced the new terms of apothem and radius of polygons in our problems today.  We went over 3-4 problems together before getting started on the homework.

Assignment:  section 11-4;  page 443;  #1-12 all

Algebra 10-12 assignment; 4/6

Welcome back from Spring Break!  We started our next chapter today by working with relations and functions.  The terms we introduced included the range and domain of a function.  We also spent some time showing how functions are written and evaluated.  We went through several examples before getting started on the homework in class.
